The Honorable Raymond S. Burton '62 Public Service Scholarship

The purpose of the Scholarship is to honor and celebrate Burton’s more than 35 years of service to the State of New Hampshire, especially as an Executive Council member representing the people and interests of northern New Hampshire. The fund will provide scholarship support and recognition to an aspiring public servant who seeks to carry on Ray Burton’s commitment to a life of public service.

The Scholarship is to be awarded to a Plymouth State University full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing who is a New Hampshire student and who aspires to public service. Priority will be shown to candidates from NH District 1 (all the towns and cities in the counties of Coos and Grafton, the unincorporated place of Hale’s Location, the towns of Albany, Alton, Andover, Bartlett, Brookfield, Center Harbor, Chatham, Conway, Cornish, Croydon, Danbury, Eaton, Effingham, Freedom, Gilford, Grantham, Hart’s Location, Hill, Jackson, Madison, Meredith, Middleton, Milton, Moultonborough, New Durham, New Hampton, New London, Newport, Ossipee, Plainfield, Sanbornton, Sandwich, Springfield, Sunapee, Tamworth, Tilton, Tuftonboro, Wakefield, Wilmot, and Wolfeboro, and the cities of Claremont and Laconia) and preference will be given to a political science major.

The application and selection process will be determined by faculty and staff of the Department of Social Science. The scholarship selection committee may, at their discretion, divide the award between multiple recipients. Should no candidates meet the criteria, the Scholarship shall be retained to be awarded the following semester or academic year.
