Marjorie "Marty" Stokes Environmental Science and Policy Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide an award for an outstanding Plymouth State University student who is seeking to develop an understanding of the science of environmental issues and the application of policy to social and cultural interests of industry and communities.

The eligible recipient/s shall be a full time matriculated returning student who is focusing on some aspect of environmental science or policy for their major, this includes ESP, Biology, Environmental Planning or students pursuing an Interdisciplinary Studies major. The award is made upon consideration of the applicant’s financial need and also academic achievement, environmental involvement, community and/or campus activities, honors, and employment background.

The selection committee, comprised of faculty and staff from related programs, shall determine the most appropriate applicant based on the stated criteria. Should no candidates meet the criteria or be deemed worthy, the funds shall be retained for awarding the following semester or academic year, according to the selection committee’s discretion.

Interested students must submit a letter of application addressing the criteria explained above and listed again below, along with a resume.

· Confirm intention to attend PSU as a fulltime, matriculated upperclass student focusing on environmental issues, during the upcoming academic year;

· Statement of financial need, which will be verified with the financial aid office;

· Explanation of academic achievement, environmental involvement, participation or leadership in community and/ or campus activities, honors, and employment background

Lastly, students must be available to attend the annual fall dinner to honor scholarship awardees and donors. This is an opportunity to meet and thank the donor, Shaughn Bolton.
